About
I fell in love, became totally addicted and dedicated to surfing when I was in my early twenties living near Bournemouth, Wimborne in Dorset to exact. Surfing Bournemouth pier changed my life and the people I met exposed me to their stories of beautiful waves in the uk and abroad.
I wanted to be a good surfer and I wanted to surf those waves I had heard about. I can remember watching the best surfers in Bournemouth surfing at the pier with their powerful cut backs and carving turns- I wanted to be able to do what they did. I was useless and spent more time falling into the winter ice cold water of the English Channel. But I was hooked and my dreams drove me to keep trying. I met a surfer called Steve Wilkins who inspired me and took me surfing to places like Kimmeridge and also the big change in my surfing life, Croyde Bay North Devon. Man, those waves in my first few trips from Dorset to Devon- I used to close my eyes and see those waves on the back of my eyelids. Steve is the connection to me creating Uksurfer. Steve is a really good surfer and south coast surfboard shaper, I apologise Steve I cannot remember your surfboard brand name.
My dedication to wanting to surf to the best of my ability took up all my time. I took jobs with hours to suit my need for daytime surf hours. So aspirations of creating my own brand was always put on hold. Until now, 30 years on from my first surf at Bournemouth pier. The brand name Uksurfer evolved from two other names the first being ‘Euro-Rof’- Euro-Rof was to be a on line documentation of my surf travels through Europe.
The second brand name was ‘Euro-Surfer’- again surf travel through Europe. I never fulfilled these ideas as I never felt they had a ‘thing’ they were not anything, apart from it being totally about me, that did not sit well with me. Then Uksurfer came to me. I had the Uksurfer logo for about a year and was desperately trying to find a way to give Uksurfer a reason to exist, a ‘thing’. After hearing that magicseaweed had switched their webcams to paid subscription only, I thought that’s it!
To establish Uksurfer as a brand I could do it through a surf report. And Uksurfer is as you see it now in its fledgling stages. I have big plans for Uksurfer, so stay tuned!
